In the early evening of October 27, 2021, a report of a shooting shattered the quiet of The Vault Apartments in Statesboro, Georgia. Responding officers discovered a grim scene inside one of the units; 18-year-old Antonio Jackson, a male from Jesup, was found deceased, having succumbed to gunshot wounds. It was quickly determined that Jackson was not a student at any local university, nor was he a resident of Statesboro. Detectives descended on the apartment complex, working through the night to process the scene for evidence and to interview potential witnesses, their investigation suggesting that multiple people were present when Jackson was killed.
The investigation into Antonio Jackson's death unfolded over the following month, leading to a series of arrests that painted a picture of a complex case involving multiple individuals. The first to be taken into custody, on November 3, was 20-year-old Damon Justin Jevon Hines of Jesup. He faced a litany of charges, including party to the crime of murder, theft by receiving stolen property, various drug and firearm offenses, and tampering with evidence. The Statesboro Police Department signaled that more arrests were on the horizon, and they delivered on that promise.
The web of alleged accomplices continued to unravel with the arrest of 18-year-old Kaliz Jamarson Hadley, also from Jesup, on November 13. He was similarly charged with party to the crime of murder, along with drug possession and evidence tampering. The investigation pressed on, and soon after, 22-year-old Deavonte Andrews of Jesup was apprehended and faced charges that mirrored those of his alleged associates: party to the crime of murder, tampering with evidence, and illegal possession of a firearm and marijuana.
A significant development came with the arrest of 18-year-old Tyrezz Jones of Allenhurst, who was charged directly with the murder of Antonio Jackson, as well as aggravated assault. The final primary suspect, 21-year-old Treg Patterson of Jesup, was taken into custody in Wayne County and also faced a charge of party to the crime of murder. The extensive investigation also led to the arrests of four other individuals on related drug and firearms offenses that were uncovered during the homicide probe. These individuals were identified as Jaquavious Pinkney, Kevionta Nix, Jorge Camacho, and Marcus Trice. The thorough police work brought a total of nine individuals into the criminal justice system in connection with the untimely death of Antonio Jackson.
