In the late afternoon of a Wednesday in Macon, Georgia, a confrontation in a parking lot on Mercer University Drive turned fatal for 37-year-old Jarvis Ottman. The events of November 17, 2021, unfolded when Ottman allegedly used his vehicle to block another car.
According to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office, what happened next was a matter of self-defense. Investigators reported that Ottman approached the blocked vehicle in a threatening manner. The driver of the other car, who was not publicly identified, was with passengers, including children. Feeling threatened, the driver discharged a firearm, striking Ottman multiple times. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
