In a tragic and sudden act of violence, 33-year-old Angelina Lai Yen Boey of Atlanta, Georgia, lost her life on December 9, 2021. Born in Malaysia, she had made Georgia her home after her family moved to the United States in 2003. She was a graduate of the University of Georgia with bachelor's degrees in Public Relations and Psychology. Those who knew her described her as a beautiful person, both inside and out, with a sensitive and kind-hearted nature who loved easily.
She was a beloved daughter, sister, and aunt.
On the evening of her death, Angelina and her husband, 34-year-old Dung Phi Nguyen, were found deceased near Henderson Park in DeKalb County around 5:30 p.m. Both individuals had sustained gunshot wounds. The investigation by DeKalb police concluded that the incident was an apparent murder-suicide. Authorities determined that Nguyen fatally shot Boey before turning the gun on himself.
The shocking event left her family and friends grappling with the senselessness of her death, which they described as a result of domestic violence. In the wake of this tragedy, her family expressed their profound sadness and chose to remember the beautiful moments and warmth she brought into their lives. They highlighted the often-unseen prevalence of domestic violence and hoped that Angelina's story could help raise awareness and prevent similar tragedies for others. As the perpetrator took his own life at the scene, no arrests were made in connection with Angelina's death.
