Jerry Randall Stanley was a male law-enforcement officer serving as a sergeant with the Sophia Police Department in Sophia, West Virginia. On Wednesday, January 14, 1981, Stanley was killed in the line of duty by a gunshot. Law-enforcement memorial records consistently identify his cause of death as "Gunfire " distinguishing the incident from a deliberate shooting or felonious attack on an officer.
