In the midst of a Sunday afternoon, on February 20, 2022, the life of 25-year-old Charlotin Presley was tragically cut short in Griffin, Georgia. The incident unfolded around 1:18 p.m. at the Northside Hills Apartments on Northside Drive, where Presley was found inside an apartment with a single gunshot wound to his side. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
The events leading to the fatal shooting began with a verbal altercation in the apartment complex's parking lot involving Presley, 19-year-old Brandon Hawkins, and several other individuals. Following the argument, Hawkins allegedly entered his vehicle, drove a short distance, and then exited, pointing a firearm at the group. A chaotic exchange of gunfire ensued, during which Presley was struck. Investigators later recovered more than 40 shell casings and three firearms from the scene, a testament to the intensity of the shootout.
Tragically, the violence erupted in close proximity to children who were playing nearby. Surveillance footage captured the harrowing moments as some of the children ran for cover while others seemed to continue playing, seemingly oblivious to the danger. Authorities expressed their relief that no children were harmed in the crossfire, calling it a 'miracle.'
In the aftermath of the shooting, Brandon Hawkins fled the scene in his vehicle but was apprehended by law enforcement a short time later near the apartment complex. He was subsequently arrested and faced charges of murder and aggravated assault in connection with Charlotin Presley's death. The investigation into the shooting remained ongoing, with officials indicating that additional charges and arrests were possible as they continued to piece together the events of that tragic afternoon.
