In the quiet town of Fort Valley, Georgia, the life of 37-year-old Brandon Goodwin was tragically cut short on the evening of Saturday, May 14, 2022. That night, officers responded to a call of a shooting in the 1100-block of Edward Street and discovered Goodwin with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso. He was rushed to Atrium Health Navicent Peach hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead by the Peach County Coroner. An autopsy was scheduled to be performed at the GBI Crime Lab to determine the exact cause of death.
The investigation into the shooting death of the male victim quickly led authorities to identify a suspect. Within days, the Fort Valley Police Department announced they were searching for 26-year-old Tyler Jones, for whom they had secured warrants for murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. After more than two weeks on the run, Jones was apprehended on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, by the U.S. Marshals and the Fort Valley Police Department.
Further investigation into the incident resulted in a second arrest. Quentel Jones, the brother of Tyler Jones, was also taken into custody and charged with battery in connection with Goodwin's death. At the time of his arrest, Quentel was a football signee for the University of Kentucky and a star defensive lineman from Peach County.
Following their arrests, both Tyler and Quentel Jones were booked into the Peach County Jail. The case against the two brothers then moved to the legal system for prosecution.
