In the late morning of November 8, 2022, emergency services responded to a call on Brown Street in Gainesville, Georgia, where they found 25-year-old Christopher Demetrius Dixon with a single gunshot wound to his chest. He was quickly transported to a nearby medical center, but tragically succumbed to his injuries. The initial investigation into the shooting led law enforcement to believe that two individuals involved had barricaded themselves inside a unit at the Harrison Square apartment complex. This prompted a significant police presence, including the deployment of a SWAT team to the scene. However, upon entering the apartment, authorities found it empty.
The search for the suspects continued, and investigators soon identified two teenage brothers, 17-year-old Syn'sere Antrell Deshaun Patton and 16-year-old Jamarco Patton, as the individuals responsible for Dixon's death. As law enforcement tracked their movements to the Atlanta area, the two brothers ultimately turned themselves in to investigators.
Following their surrender, both teenagers were charged as adults with felony murder, aggravated battery, and aggravated assault. Syn'sere Patton was booked into the Hall County Jail, while his younger brother, Jamarco, was taken to the Regional Youth Detention Center in Gainesville. Both were held without bond. While the motive for the shooting was not immediately clear, the incident was described by the sheriff's office as isolated.
