A dispute that began at a party tragically escalated into a fatal shooting in the early morning hours of February 10, 2025, in Gainesville, Georgia, claiming the life of 44-year-old Kendrick Barrett McClendon. The male victim was shot and killed at a Texaco gas station located at the intersection of Athens Street and Ridge Road.
The events leading to the deadly encounter reportedly started with an altercation at a party. Following this dispute, the violence spilled over to the gas station. At the scene, police discovered a car with significant damage, including a window that had been shot out. An unnamed witness reported that McClendon had been shot while in the vehicle and had managed to walk into the convenience store to seek help before he succumbed to his injuries. A woman who was with McClendon was also struck by gunfire, sustaining a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to her arm.
The Gainesville Police Department, in a swift and collaborative effort with multiple other law enforcement agencies including the Hall County Sheriff's Office, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and the FBI's Safe Streets Task Force, identified a suspect. Kendrick Deshaun Goss, a 44-year-old from Gainesville, was arrested in connection with the shooting.
Goss was subsequently charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He is being held in the Hall County jail. The rapid arrest was praised by Gainesville's police chief, who highlighted the effective teamwork between the various agencies and the community in quickly resolving the case and apprehending the person allegedly responsible for what was described as a senseless death.
