In the late afternoon of November 22, 2022, the life of 31-year-old Mykel-General Devon Price, Sr., an African American male, was tragically cut short in a double shooting on the 500 block of Winwood Place in Savannah, Georgia. Responding to the scene at approximately 4:15 p.m., Savannah Police officers discovered Price and another man, 27-year-old Xavier Johnson, suffering from gunshot wounds. Both men were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention. While Johnson's injuries were not life-threatening, Price ultimately succumbed to his wounds.

The investigation into the shooting led to the identification of three suspects. The first to be apprehended was 27-year-old Malik Johnta Grant, who was located and arrested by U.S. Marshals in Winston Salem, North Carolina, on December 13, 2022. He was charged with party to a crime murder and party to a crime aggravated assault. Less than a month later, on January 10, 2023, a second suspect, 21-year-old Marquis Sammuel Grant, was found in Pooler, Georgia, by U.S. Marshals and the Georgia State Patrol. He faced the same charges as Malik Grant. The final suspect, 22-year-old Mikell Justin Sanders, was arrested in Savannah by U.S. Marshals on February 6, 2023, and was charged with murder and aggravated assault. All three men were taken into custody at the Chatham County jail.

As the case moved through the legal system, a significant development occurred when both Malik and Marquis Grant accepted plea deals. In exchange for their cooperation, they agreed to testify against Mikell Sanders. The two brothers were subsequently sentenced to probation. The trial for Sanders, the man alleged to have pulled the trigger, was scheduled to begin with jury selection in February 2026. The family of Mykel Price, a father to a son and daughter, has been awaiting justice for over three years.
