In the quiet hours of a Christmas Eve morning in Columbus, Georgia, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace and irrevocably altered the lives of two families. On December 24, 2022, in the 1600 block of Baker Plaza Drive, 18-year-old Jewel Dantzler and another man, 24-year-old Tamareious Miller, were both shot. The male teenager, Dantzler, was a musician who had attended Hardaway High School and was remembered for the time he loved to spend with his friends and family.
Emergency services
arrived to a grim scene. Miller was pronounced dead at 2:25 a.m. that same morning. Dantzler, however, was found in critical condition and rushed to a local hospital. He fought for his life for four days, placed on life support. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he was declared brain dead. In a final act of generosity, he was kept on life support to allow for his organs to be donated. On December 28, 2022, Jewel Dantzler was pronounced clinically deceased.
The shooting that claimed the lives of the two young men rocked the community. Both Dantzler and Miller were sent for an autopsy as the investigation into their deaths began. However, information regarding the circumstances of the shooting and any potential suspects has not been publicly released by law enforcement.
