Abad Freddy Tineo, a 40-year-old Hispanic male, was tragically found dead on November 22, 2015, in West Palm Beach, Florida. His body was discovered in the area of Echo Lake and Northshore drives, and it was determined that he had died from a gunshot wound. The investigation revealed that Tineo had used his credit card at a Valero gas station in Lake Worth on the night of November 21, 2015. Surveillance footage from the gas station showed him meeting a woman driving a silver Toyota Matrix.
This meeting would later become a crucial piece of evidence in the investigation.
The woman, identified as Desiree Platas, admitted to police that she had met Tineo through a website and arranged to meet him. They planned to go to West Palm Beach to purchase marijuana from a drug dealer. Upon arriving at the location for the drug transaction, the dealer, later identified as Joshua Robinson, entered the vehicle, sold them the marijuana, and then shot Tineo through the window without any prior warning. Platas, fearing for her life, did not immediately report the incident to the police. Instead, she and Robinson drove to Echo Lake and Northshore drives, where they dumped Tineo's body.
Further investigation led to the arrest of Joshua Robinson, who was 27 years old at the time of his arrest in 2018. Robinson was charged with first-degree murder, attempted robbery with a firearm, arson, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Desiree Platas, who was 21 years old at the time of the incident, was also charged with first-degree murder and destroying evidence. Additionally, Platas' 19-year-old brother, Tyler Davis, was charged with being an accessory to first-degree murder, tampering with evidence, and lying to police. Davis had set the Toyota Matrix on fire at the J.W. Corbett Wildlife Management area, claiming he was held at gunpoint and forced to do so.
The arrests and subsequent charges brought some measure of justice for the family of Abad Freddy Tineo. The case highlighted the dangers of online interactions and the tragic consequences that can arise from criminal activities. The collaborative efforts of the West Palm Beach police, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, and the U.S. Marshal's Task Force were instrumental in solving the case and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
