Damion Ghurpersad, a 31-year-old man from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, tragically lost his life on November 23, 2015. The incident occurred in Sunrise, Florida, where Ghurpersad was involved in a drug deal that turned fatal. According to reports, Ghurpersad and another individual went to an apartment complex to complete a $12,000 drug transaction. During the deal, two men, Nicholas Lewis and Dalvin Hamilton, both 21 years old, attempted to rob Ghurpersad and his partner.
The situation escalated when Ghurpersad reached for a firearm in his waistband, prompting Lewis to shoot him. Ghurpersad was found by officers bleeding from his torso and gasping for air. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Broward Health Medical Center.
The investigation revealed that Hamilton had brokered the drug deal with the intention of robbing Ghurpersad and his partner. Lewis, who was on probation and wearing a GPS tracking device, was identified as the gunman. The device recorded his presence at the scene of the crime. Both Lewis and Hamilton were arrested on Thanksgiving Day and charged with first-degree murder. A Broward grand jury later determined that both men should face charges of premeditated first-degree murder for the killing of Damion Ghurpersad.
