Ricky Enrique Iglesias, a 43-year-old Hispanic male, tragically lost his life on August 28, 2016, in Miami, Florida. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. at the intersection of Southwest 197th Avenue and Southwest 192nd Street. Iglesias was driving his Kawasaki ATV with his girlfriend when he encountered a road rage incident that led to his untimely death.
According to reports, Iglesias had sustained a flat tire and was driving in the southbound lane when he crossed paths with Andres Diaz, a 57-year-old man, who was a passenger in a black Dodge Journey driven by his wife, Ketty Dominguez.
The confrontation began when Dominguez had to swerve to avoid a head-on collision with Iglesias' ATV. Heated words were exchanged between Dominguez and Iglesias, and the situation escalated when Diaz instructed his wife to turn the car around. They approached Iglesias, who had pulled over near the intersection. Another exchange of words occurred, and as Diaz and Dominguez drove away, they saw Iglesias holding a green glass bottle. Diaz warned Iglesias not to approach, stating he had a gun. Despite the warning, Iglesias continued to argue with Diaz, who then shot Iglesias in the chest.
Iglesias was pronounced dead at the scene. Diaz called 911 but neither he nor his wife attempted to assist Iglesias before authorities arrived. Diaz was subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree murder with a deadly weapon. He appeared in court and was ordered to remain in jail without bond. The case highlighted the dangers of road rage and the tragic consequences that can arise from such confrontations.
The investigation revealed that Diaz and Dominguez claimed they confronted Iglesias because they believed he was driving recklessly against traffic. They also mentioned that ATV riders had been a nuisance in their community. Diaz stated that he initially intended to take a photo of Iglesias to report the incident to the police, but the situation escalated to a fatal shooting.
