Deandre Holmes, a 22-year-old Black male, was fatally shot on October 11, 2016, in Riviera Beach, Florida. The incident occurred late at night when someone fired multiple rounds through a rear bedroom window of a home on 360 W. 16th Way. Holmes was inside his girlfriend's bedroom at the time of the shooting. The assailants crept into the backyard, waited until everyone except Holmes had left the bedroom, and then opened fire.
This was not a random act but a targeted incident, as police believe there were multiple shooters involved.
Holmes had a history of disputes with others, which police believe may have led to his murder. Earlier that year, on June 4, Holmes was shot in the leg but refused to cooperate with investigators. He had a criminal record, including at least five arrests in Palm Beach County for offenses such as selling drugs. Despite an intensive search with K9 units and information on the suspects' possible whereabouts, no arrests were made immediately following the shooting.
The investigation into Holmes' murder revealed that the shooting was likely connected to ongoing disputes. Police noted that the situation could have endangered any of the homes Holmes visited in the months leading up to his death. The case remains open, with detectives continuing to seek information and leads to bring the perpetrators to justice.
