Bryan Ramon Davis Jones, a 25-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on October 18, 2016, in Jacksonville, Florida. Known affectionately as "Mone," Bryan was born on May 25, 1991, to Vickie Davis and Bryan Jones. He was a fan of football, particularly the University of Alabama team, and was deeply loved by his family and friends.
The circumstances surrounding Bryan's death were harrowing.
On the day of his murder, Bryan was shot multiple times in the head while sitting in his car. The perpetrator, Jihad Abdul Smith, who was 17 years old at the time, had previously borrowed a firearm from Bryan about a month before the incident. On the fateful day, Smith entered Bryan's car and committed the murder before fleeing on foot.
The investigation into Bryan's death was thorough and led by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. Detectives discovered Bryan's cellphone in a sewer drain near Smith's residence, with the call log history deleted. This log contained multiple calls between Bryan and Smith just minutes before the murder. Smith had also attempted to trade the firearm used in the killing.
In 2019, Jihad Abdul Smith was found guilty of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence. The trial revealed that the motive behind the murder was robbery. Smith was subsequently sentenced to life in prison for his crimes. The case was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Joe Licandro, Christina Stifler, and Trey Atkinson, who ensured that justice was served for Bryan Ramon Davis Jones.
