The couple's four children, all aged 14 years and younger, were present in the house at the time of the incident. The eldest child, a 14-year-old, ran from the house and called 911 after hearing the argument and subsequent gunshots. When deputies arrived, they found Samantha's body on a couch and Kirk's body in another room, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Pasco County Sheriff's Office led the investigation into the murder-suicide. Sheriff Chris Nocco expressed deep sorrow for the children left behind, emphasizing the need for community support and prayers for the young ones who had to witness such a traumatic event.
