In a tragic turn of events on a late Sunday night in Gaithersburg, Maryland, 38-year-old David Lee Reid Jr. lost his life. On June 15, 2014, the sound of gunshots echoed through a parking garage on Raven Avenue, prompting a swift response from Montgomery County Police officers who were patrolling nearby. What they discovered was a grim scene that would later be described as a domestic-related murder-suicide.
Upon their arrival at approximately 11:20 p.m., officers found David Lee Reid
Jr. suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was a software engineer. Emergency personnel transported him to a local hospital, but his injuries proved fatal. As law enforcement and paramedics were attending to Reid, a search of the parking garage led them to another discovery.
The investigation into David's death quickly focused on his estranged wife, 39-year-old Michelle Rena Reid, an attorney. Investigators believe she was the one who fired the fatal shots that killed her husband. Shortly after shooting him, as officers closed in, Michelle Reid was found between parked cars, armed with a handgun. She then turned the weapon on herself, taking her own life. She was also transported to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The couple, who had once been featured in a magazine for their lavish wedding, were reportedly having marital problems and were living at separate addresses in Gaithersburg at the time of the incident. Neighbors reported hearing them argue prior to the gunshots. The preliminary investigation concluded that Michelle Reid shot her husband before committing suicide, bringing a violent and sorrowful end to their story.
