In a quiet neighborhood in Montgomery Village, a tragedy unfolded on the morning of April 26, 2025, forever altering the lives of those involved. A vehicle, driven by 20-year-old Henry Krishawn Gilbert, a male from Clarksburg, Maryland, crashed into a townhouse on Brookridge Court. First responders arriving at the scene of the collision discovered a grim reality; Gilbert was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Despite the efforts of emergency medical personnel, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial report of a simple traffic accident quickly escalated into a homicide investigation. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore conducted an autopsy and officially ruled Gilbert's death a homicide, confirming he had been shot. Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division took charge of the case, beginning the arduous process of piecing together the events that led to the young man's untimely death. The investigation was described as active and ongoing as authorities appealed to the public for any information that might lead to an arrest, offering a reward for tips.
The investigation led to the identification of two suspects. On May 1, 2025, Demari Howard Brown, a 20-year-old from Montgomery Village, was apprehended by officers assigned to the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery. The second suspect, 19-year-old Jorden Nylen Hungerford of Hyattsville, remained at large for a short period. However, on May 3, 2025, Hungerford turned himself in to the Rockville City Police. He was also served with an arrest warrant charging him with first-degree murder. Brown was held without bond, and a bond hearing was scheduled for Hungerford.
