On the evening of Tuesday, October 29, 2019, a burst of gunfire shattered the night on the 7000 block of Algard Street. When Philadelphia Police officers arrived at the scene at 8:38 p.m., they discovered two men inside a 2005 Buick LeSabre, both suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims was 23-year-old Alex Rodriguez, a Black male who resided on the very block where the shooting occurred.
Rodriguez had been shot multiple times throughout his body.
In a desperate attempt to save his life, officers rushed him to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital. Despite the efforts of the medical staff, Alex Rodriguez succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. A second individual, a 24-year-old Black male, was also found in the car with a single gunshot wound to his back. He was transported to the same hospital and was listed in stable condition.
The investigation into the death of Alex Rodriguez remains open. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The Philadelphia Police Department continues to ask for the public's assistance, encouraging anyone with information to come forward to help bring closure to the case.
