Jefferey Dumersaint, a 19-year-old Black male, tragically lost his life on August 17, 2020, in Miami, FL. The incident occurred at a 7-Eleven store near the border of Miami-Dade and Broward counties. According to reports, the altercation began when Robert Caleb, a 32-year-old man, was nearly hit by a car driven by Dumersaint. This encounter escalated into a physical fight outside the gas station.
Despite knowing that Dumersaint was unarmed, Caleb retrieved a semi-automatic handgun from his backpack and shot Dumersaint multiple times. Dumersaint was transported to Aventura Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation revealed that Caleb continued to shoot at Dumersaint even after he had fallen and was pleading for his life. Caleb was apprehended by the police several blocks away from the scene and was charged with first-degree murder. During his first court appearance, Caleb was denied bond and remains in custody awaiting trial.
