Ramiek Tyshawn Young, a 17-year-old from Jacksonville, Florida, tragically lost his life on May 28, 2021. Young had traveled from Georgia to Jacksonville to surprise his sister for her graduation. On the afternoon of May 27, 2021, he was found shot multiple times on a sidewalk in the Durkeeville neighborhood around 2:30 p.m. Initially, his injuries were not considered life-threatening, but his condition deteriorated, and he succumbed to his injuries at a hospital around 5 p.m. that same day.
Young's family described him as a caring and well-mannered teenager with a bright future, who was doing well in school and had recently started a job.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to the scene after receiving a ShotSpotter alert, which detects gunshots, from a nearby location. Despite canvassing the area for video and evidence, the police had no suspect information to release at the time. Neighbors recalled hearing the shots and described the incident as another random shooting in the area. The police urged anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing the importance of breaking the code of silence to help solve the case.
As of now, there have been no arrests or suspects publicly identified in connection with Ramiek Tyshawn Young's death. The investigation remains open, and the authorities continue to seek information from the public to bring justice for Young and his family. His mother has started a GoFundMe fundraiser to help cover funeral expenses, and the family continues to mourn the loss of a beloved son and brother.
