Trevor Christian Gray, a 20-year-old resident of Jacksonville, Florida, tragically lost his life on January 2, 2019. Trevor was a native of Jacksonville and had graduated early from high school to pursue a business degree at Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ). He was known for his passion for football, baseball, and bowling, and was deeply loved by his family and friends.
His untimely death left a significant void in the lives of those who knew him.
On the night of January 2, 2019, Trevor was involved in a drive-by shooting at the intersection of Atlantic Boulevard and St. Johns Bluff Road. The incident occurred after a confrontation at a Circle K gas station, where a fight broke out between one of Trevor's friends and Izhaan Shamar Scott. Following the altercation, Trevor and his friends left the gas station, but Scott pursued them in his vehicle. As Scott's car pulled alongside Trevor's, he opened fire, striking Trevor multiple times. Trevor's vehicle subsequently crashed, and he was found by police officers suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Trevor succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into Trevor's death led to the arrest of Izhaan Shamar Scott, who was charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder, and shooting deadly missiles. Scott was released on bond and placed under home arrest while awaiting trial. The legal proceedings have been ongoing, with no trial date set as of yet. Trevor's mother, Tina Gray, has been vocal about her frustration with the slow pace of the justice system, expressing her disbelief that Scott was granted bond and allowed to spend holidays with his family while her son was deprived of that opportunity.
In the wake of Trevor's death, his mother founded Compassionate Warriors, a nonprofit organization aimed at providing support to families affected by violence. The organization offers emotional support, assistance with victim services, and financial aid. Tina Gray has organized candlelight vigils and other events to honor Trevor's memory and bring together those who have lost loved ones to violence. Through Compassionate Warriors, she hopes to create a community of support and solidarity for those navigating the difficult journey of grief and loss.
