Tyrell Bartley, a 27-year-old resident of Jacksonville, Florida, tragically lost his life on August 16, 2021. Bartley was found shot to death outside Passions Gentlemen's Club on Beach Boulevard. According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the incident began with a dispute inside the club that escalated and spilled out into the parking lot. Bartley was shot while sitting in the driver's seat of his car. In an attempt to escape, he crashed into a JEA utility station and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. This incident occurred just weeks after another deadly shooting outside Mascaras Gentlemen's Club, located nearby.
The Jacksonville chapter of MAD DADS, an organization supporting victims of violent crimes, identified Bartley and has been vocal about the need for increased safety measures in the area. The community has expressed frustration over the recurring violence associated with local gentlemen's clubs. City Councilman Matt Carlucci announced plans to investigate the frequency of violent crimes reported in the vicinity of these establishments and to consider legislative actions to address the issue.
In the wake of Bartley's death, there have been calls for the closure of Mascaras Gentlemen's Club due to its history of gun violence. Local residents and city leaders have voiced concerns about the safety of the neighborhood, citing numerous incidents of gunfire and other criminal activities. Councilman Carlucci, along with other city officials, has proposed legislation to declare Mascaras a public nuisance and shut it down. The ownership of Passions Gentlemen's Club has been cooperating with law enforcement, and the proposed ordinance is not directed towards them.
As of now, there have been no arrests or identified suspects in connection with Bartley's murder. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the case and has urged anyone with information to come forward. The community remains on edge, hoping for justice and a resolution to the ongoing violence in their neighborhood.
