He was pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot wounds. The incident occurred around 10:15 p.m., and the gunman fled to a waiting car immediately after the shooting.

Samayoa, a 32-year-old man from Hollywood, Florida. Samayoa had been dropped off at the hotel by an Uber driver, Enzo Ramirez, who later testified that Samayoa paid him $100 to wait at a nearby gas station. Samayoa was seen wandering around the hotel, making phone calls, and interacting with Drummond and two other individuals in the parking lot. He asked them if they had seen a young girl whose picture he showed on his phone. When they denied seeing the girl, Samayoa began peeking into a nearby car, which led Drummond to chastise him. Shortly after, Samayoa walked into the hotel, and moments later, shots were fired.
The case against Samayoa was built on the testimony of witnesses, video and audio recordings from the hotel, and the account of the Uber driver. Surveillance footage from a gas station across the street showed a man matching Samayoa's description running to a dark-colored Toyota Camry immediately after the shooting. Despite an initial mistrial in June 2023, where the jury could not reach a unanimous decision, a second trial in October 2023 resulted in Samayoa's conviction for first-degree murder. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
