On June 28, 2024, 38-year-old Dominique Reese was fatally shot in an incident that occurred near the Hogan’s Creek area in Jacksonville, Florida. Police were called to the scene on Kings Road, near North Davis Street, just before midnight, where they found Reese in her car with a gunshot wound. It was determined that Reese had been shot at a different location and had stopped at the scene to seek help. Despite being taken to a local hospital, she succumbed to her injuries.
The investigation by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) involved analyzing evidence from the scene and conducting interviews with homicide detectives. These efforts led to the identification of Markees McGriff, 37, as the suspect in Reese's murder. McGriff was subsequently arrested and charged with murder, armed robbery, and armed burglary.
In addition to the murder charge, McGriff was accused of stealing property from inside Reese’s vehicle, which prompted the robbery and burglary charges. Notably, McGriff had previously been identified by JSO as one of the leaders of the P.Y.C. gang, also known as the Pakistan Yulee Clique.
The arrest was made less than a month after the incident, marking a significant development in the case as the authorities worked to bring justice for Dominique Reese and her family.
