Ferguson was initially arrested on unrelated drug-possession charges in Clewiston in late March. However, once law enforcement obtained his cell phone, they were able to link him to the crime scene through the text messages and location data. Ferguson was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder, and he was ordered to be held without bail at the Palm Beach County jail.
