On the night of December 29, 2021, Dylan was attending a get-together with friends at Ackerman Park in Sarasota County while home for Christmas break. During the gathering, an argument broke out among other individuals, leading to a senseless act of violence. Shots were fired into the crowd, and Dylan, who had no involvement in the altercation, was struck by a bullet. He was pronounced dead shortly after the incident.
The investigation into Dylan's death led to the arrest of Nyquan Priester, who was charged with second-degree murder. Priester, along with three friends, had left the party in a car when he fired multiple shots into the crowd from the rear passenger seat. One of the bullets hit Dylan in the back, causing a fatal wound to his lung and aorta. Priester was later found guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter and discharging a firearm from a vehicle within 1,000 feet of a person. He was sentenced to 45 years in prison. Kalvion Turner, one of the individuals in the car with Priester, took a plea deal and testified against him during the trial.
