On March 27, 2016, Jason W. Head, a 35-year-old resident of Sarasota, Florida, was fatally shot outside a property on Myakka Road. Initially, the homeowner, James Cain, 61, reported to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office that he had shot Head in self-defense. Cain claimed that Head had arrived at his property and began firing a gun at him, prompting Cain to return fire and kill Head.
