Huey Percy Newton, a prominent African-American revolutionary and co-founder of the Black Panther Party, was tragically murdered on August 22, 1989, in Oakland, California. Newton, who was 47 years old at the time of his death, was shot in the early hours of the morning in front of 1456 9th Street, near the corner of Center Street in the Prescott section of Oakland.
