Latasha Harlins, a 15-year-old African American girl, was tragically killed on March 16, 1991, in Los Angeles, California. The incident occurred at Empire Liquor, a convenience store owned by Soon Ja Du, a 49-year-old Korean American woman. Latasha entered the store to purchase a $1.79 bottle of orange juice.
