On October 20, 2023, Alberto Gonzalez Sr., a 72-year-old man from Kissimmee, Florida, died following a violent altercation with his son, Alberto Jose Gonzalez-Velazquez Jr. The incident began in the parking lot of a Kissimmee restaurant, where an argument broke out between the father and son. The two men then left the restaurant together in a gray truck, which subsequently crashed near West Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway and Bass Road.
After the crash, the pair drove to the Knights Inn Motel, located on West Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway near Old Vineland Road. At the motel, the argument escalated, leading to a violent confrontation. Witnesses reported hearing gunfire during the altercation and seeing Gonzalez-Velazquez Jr. stab his father multiple times and then run him over with the gray pickup truck before fleeing the scene.
Deputies from the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a shooting at the motel and found Alberto Gonzalez Sr. with life-threatening injuries, including seven stab wounds. He was taken to HCA Florida Osceola Hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries on October 22, 2023. The Medical Examiner’s Office later ruled his manner of death as a homicide.
Gonzalez-Velazquez Jr. was apprehended by deputies near an Aldi grocery store in Davenport. At the time of his arrest, he was covered in blood and had a bloody knife in his possession. Initially, he was booked into the Polk County Jail on charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. However, following his father's death, his charges were upgraded to premeditated first-degree murder.
The investigation revealed that the violent confrontation was part of a broader sequence of events that began with the argument at the restaurant and culminated in the fatal attack at the motel. Gonzalez-Velazquez Jr.'s arrest and subsequent charges reflect the severity of the crimes committed during this tragic incident.
