Luis Urquidez, a 17-year-old from Sacramento, tragically lost his life on April 12, 2017, in Oakland, California. The incident occurred at a friend's home in East Oakland, where Urquidez had spent the night. According to police reports, the fatal event transpired when an 18-year-old friend, whose name has not been released, began "playing around" with a semi-automatic pistol early in the morning. The gun accidentally discharged, striking Urquidez while he was asleep.
Despite being rushed to the hospital, Urquidez succumbed to his injuries later that morning.
The shooting was initially surrounded by confusion, as there were six other individuals present in the house at the time, and their accounts to the police were inconsistent.
