After obtaining their meals, they returned to Lainez's car, which was parked in the restaurant's lot. As they sat in the vehicle, another car pulled up behind them.
A person exited the newcomer’s car, approached the driver's side of Lainez's vehicle, and began shooting. Lainez, who was seated in the driver's seat, was struck by the gunfire. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he was pronounced dead at 4:55 p.m. His friend, who was with him at the time, was unharmed.
