Edgar Eduardo Barajas Ruiz, aged 34, tragically lost his life on May 12, 2018, in Bakersfield, California. The incident occurred in front of a house on Stargaze Drive in south Bakersfield. On that fateful evening, Edgar and his neighbor, Javier Saucedo, had been drinking heavily in Saucedo's driveway. According to court filings, the two men had been discussing different gang affiliations while drinking.
Edgar entered Saucedo's house twice, once to look for Saucedo and another time to use the bathroom. Saucedo's son mentioned that his father did not like it when people entered their home without permission, which had previously caused tension.
The situation escalated when Edgar entered the house for the second time, leading to a physical altercation between the two men. After the fight, Edgar and his brother, who had also been drinking, returned to Edgar's house. While they were standing outside and continuing to drink, shots were fired, and Edgar was fatally wounded. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Javier Saucedo turned himself in three days later and was charged with the shooting death of Edgar Barajas Ruiz. Initially, Saucedo faced charges of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. However, he later pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter, and the more severe charges were dismissed. In December 2021, Saucedo was sentenced to 31 years in prison for his role in the fatal shooting.
