Jose Jesus Mendoza, a 22-year-old resident of Bakersfield, California, tragically lost his life on April 8, 2018. Mendoza and Jessica Soria, 23, were found shot to death in the front yard of a home on Sterling Road in East Bakersfield. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, following a night out with friends. Mendoza had been watching a boxing match downtown before meeting up with Soria. They returned to Mendoza's home, where it is believed that someone was already waiting for them. The assailant took their time to open the gate, slide the door, and park their car in the driveway before ambushing the victims. Mendoza was shot once in the chin, while Soria was shot in the head.

The Kern County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene after neighbors reported hearing gunshots around 2 a.m. Despite the efforts of first responders, both Mendoza and Soria succumbed to their injuries. The investigation into their deaths has been ongoing, but as of now, no arrests have been made. The lack of progress in the case has left Mendoza's family in a state of fear and uncertainty, worried that the perpetrator might still pose a threat to them. Mendoza's parents, Ubaldo and Maricela Mendoza, have expressed their deep sorrow and frustration over the loss of their son, describing him as a compassionate and respectful young man.

The double homicide has garnered significant attention from local authorities and the community, with calls for anyone with information to come forward. Despite the passage of time, the case remains unsolved, and the Kern County District Attorney's Office has renewed appeals for assistance in solving the crime. The unresolved nature of the case continues to weigh heavily on the families of both victims, who are desperate for closure and justice. The community remains vigilant, hoping that new leads will eventually emerge to bring the perpetrator to justice and provide some measure of peace to the grieving families.
