On March 2, 2024, 66-year-old Harry Eugene Clark Jr. was found dead in his home on Clyde Street in east Bakersfield, California. Responding to a report of an assault, officers from the Bakersfield Police Department discovered Clark's body exhibiting signs of trauma.
The following day, 42-year-old neighbor Tyrell Cooper was arrested on suspicion of murder and other related charges. Cooper allegedly entered Clark's residence, attacking him over perceived slights.
He reportedly confessed to assaulting Clark for hours, employing methods such as punching, biting, strangling, and pistol-whipping. Witnesses also indicated that Cooper threatened others present during the incident.
During his arraignment on March 13, Cooper exhibited erratic behavior, interrupting proceedings and struggling with deputies. He pleaded not guilty to multiple felony charges, including first-degree murder and burglary, and was ordered to be held without bail. Cooper is scheduled to return to court on March 25 as the investigation continues.
