On January 28, 2024, at approximately 2:25 a.m., Bakersfield Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 10 block of Monterey Street in east Bakersfield. Upon arrival, they discovered 27-year-old Joseph Anthony Reynaga lying in the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds. He was promptly transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 3 a.m.
