Marbeli Castro-Garcia, aged 31, was tragically killed on July 21, 2019, in Bakersfield, California. The incident occurred in the 300 block of East Fairview Road, where she and Emilio Diaz Chavez, aged 36, were gunned down. The perpetrator, Gudelio Grande, was found guilty of their murders. According to court records, Grande had assaulted Castro-Garcia three days prior to the shooting, prompting her to leave and stay with a friend.
Over the weekend, she traveled to Los Angeles with her friend and returned to Bakersfield shortly before the incident.
On the day of the murder, Castro-Garcia and Chavez picked up lunch and went to Rexland Acres Park to eat. Grande found them at the park and shot Castro-Garcia twice, killing her instantly. He then shot Chavez, who attempted to flee but was chased down by Grande and fatally shot on East Fairview Road. The investigation revealed that Grande had stashed the murder weapon in his work locker, and DNA analysis connected him to the gun.
Grande was arrested on August 1, 2019, after attempting to evade capture. He was found with a loaded stolen firearm at the time of his arrest. In October 2023, a Kern County jury found Grande guilty of two counts of murder. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in March 2024. The case highlighted the tragic consequences of domestic violence and the swift justice served to the perpetrator.
