Ethan Escorcio, a 24-year-old man from Alameda, California, tragically lost his life on July 11, 2020. The incident occurred at a Circle K gas station and convenience store located at 1716 Webster Street in Alameda. According to reports, Escorcio, who was described as a transient, was involved in a confrontation with the store clerk, Wenyong Huang, over a pack of cigarettes. Huang, who was 26 years old at the time and from San Leandro, recognized Escorcio from previous thefts at the store. On the night of the incident, Escorcio allegedly walked behind the sales counter and took a pack of cigarettes from a display case. In response, Huang pulled a pistol from his waistband and pointed it at Escorcio's neck. As Huang attempted to recover the pack of cigarettes, he shot Escorcio in the head. Escorcio was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The aftermath of the shooting led to significant legal actions. Wenyong Huang was charged with murder and several other crimes, including carrying a loaded firearm on one's person in a city and carrying a concealed firearm within a vehicle.
