In the early morning hours of August 24, 2025, a tragic event unfolded in New Orleans that led to the death of Darnell Causey. A 23-year-old male, Causey was in the 600 block of Iberville Street, at the intersection of Royal and Iberville streets, when the incident occurred. At approximately 3:12 a.m., officers from the NOPD Eighth District responded to a call of a shooting in the area.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Causey suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services were dispatched to the scene and transported him to a local hospital for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Darnell Causey succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office later confirmed his identity and determined that the preliminary cause of death was related to the gunshot wounds he sustained.
In the days following the shooting, detectives from the NOPD Homicide Section launched an intensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding Causey's death. Through their work, they were able to identify a suspect in the case. Michael Hall, a Black male born on March 10, 1982, was positively identified as a perpetrator in the incident. Consequently, a warrant was issued for his arrest on one count of second-degree murder.
The New Orleans Police Department has since sought assistance from the public in locating Michael Hall. Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to contact NOPD Homicide Section detectives or to report information anonymously through Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans. As of the latest available information, Michael Hall is still wanted in connection with the murder of Darnell Causey, and all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
