A man is critically wounded leaving a bar, dies the following morning On a Sunday evening in New Orleans, what began as a night out with others ended in tragedy for Lester J. Adams, a 42-year-old African-American man. On December 30, 2012, as Adams and several other people were leaving the Big Man's Lounge at approximately 8:30 p.m., a man who had been sitting on nearby steps suddenly opened fire on the group. In the ensuing chaos, Adams was struck by multiple bullets.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and Adams was rushed to a local hospital in
critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his life-threatening injuries in the early morning hours of Monday, December 31, 2012. His death was officially ruled a homicide.
In the days that followed, the New Orleans Police Department launched an investigation into the shooting. About a week after the incident, authorities released a surveillance camera image of a potential suspect to the public in the hopes of identifying him. The man in the photograph was described as wearing white pants and a light-colored polo shirt. He also wore a baseball cap and distinctive sneakers with a navy, blue, aqua green, white, and orange color pattern, reminiscent of the Miami Dolphins football team's colors.
Despite the release of the suspect's image and description, a motive for the shooting has never been established. To date, the individual in the surveillance photo remains unidentified and is considered the only suspect in the case. No arrests have been made in the death of Lester Adams, leaving his case unsolved.
