In the early hours of a Monday morning in New Orleans, the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 near the Metairie Road exit became the scene of a violent crime that claimed the life of 25-year-old Travis Thomas. On May 6, 2013, shortly before 3 a.m., Thomas and another man were traveling in a silver Nissan Maxima when they were both struck by gunfire.
The shooting prompted the closure of the interstate for nearly two hours as New Orleans Police Department officers secured the area and began
their investigation. Both victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Tragically, Travis Thomas, who was the passenger in the vehicle, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The 23-year-old driver of the Nissan Maxima was listed in stable condition.
