On a Tuesday night in New Orleans, June 24, 2025, the life of Joseph Michael Lee Sr., a 26-year-old Black / African American male, was tragically cut short. In the 7th Ward, on the 2400 block of Pauger Street, gunfire erupted shortly after 10:15 p.m., leaving Lee with fatal injuries. He was privately transported to a nearby hospital, but despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead.
The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office later officially identified him as the victim.
A lifelong resident of the city, Joseph was a father to his beloved son, Joseph Jr. He had a passion for cooking and worked as a chef at local establishments Boil Seafood House and Russell's Marina Grill. His family remembers him as a man who found joy in simple pleasures like playing basketball, wrestling with his brothers and cousins, and relaxing with his video games. He was engaged to be married and is survived by his mother, son, fiancée, and numerous other family members and friends who now mourn his sudden and violent death.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, New Orleans Police Department homicide detectives began their investigation. They canvassed the area for evidence and appealed to the public for any information that might lead to a break in the case. At the time, authorities had not identified a motive for the shooting and did not release any information about a potential suspect or suspects. No arrests have been publicly announced in connection with the murder of Joseph Lee, and the case remains an open investigation, leaving a family grieving and a community searching for answers.
