Tyler Dickson, a 20-year-old from San Pablo, California, tragically lost his life on July 3, 2021, during a camping trip at the Bidwell Canyon Marina campground in Oroville, California. Tyler was found dead inside a tent early that morning after a camper called 911 to report an injury. Upon arrival, law enforcement and medical personnel declared him deceased.
The Butte County Sheriff's Office quickly determined that Tyler's death was a homicide, leading to an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding his murder.
Tyler was on a camping trip with his girlfriend and her family when the incident occurred. Despite the proximity of other campers, no immediate suspects were identified, and the investigation has faced significant challenges. Tyler's mother, Jade Nelson, has been vocal about her quest for justice, expressing frustration over the lack of progress and the silence from those who were present during the trip. She has taken proactive steps to keep her son's memory alive and to seek answers, including putting up billboards and posters asking for information about the killer.
The investigation, led by the Butte County Sheriff's Office, has involved following up on numerous leads and serving several search warrants, but no arrests have been made to date. In an effort to encourage more information from the public, the Governor's office announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in Tyler's case. Despite these efforts, the case remains unsolved, and Tyler's family continues to hope for a breakthrough that will bring the perpetrator to justice.
Tyler was a promising young man who had played football at El Cerrito High School and was a student-athlete at Contra Costa College, studying kinesiology. His untimely death has left a void in the lives of his family and friends, who remember him for his athletic talents and his aspirations. The community's support and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement provide a glimmer of hope that justice will eventually be served for Tyler Dickson.
