Courtnee Allen, a 23-year-old resident of San Leandro, California, tragically lost her life on September 19, 2021, in Pittsburg, California. The incident occurred outside a 7-Eleven store located at 4600 Century Boulevard. On that fateful morning, Pittsburg police officers responded to reports of a shooting just before 6:30 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered a car parked in front of the store with two women inside, both suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper torso.
Courtnee Allen was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other woman, identified as 21-year-old Angelique Abercrombie of Pittsburg, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, Abercrombie succumbed to her injuries a few days later.
The investigation revealed that the two women were sitting in their car when a person approached from behind and, for unknown reasons, began firing several rounds from a handgun into the vehicle. The suspect then fled the area. This incident marked the third and fourth homicides in Pittsburg for the year 2021. The Pittsburg Police Department launched an extensive investigation, seeking video surveillance and witness testimonies to identify the perpetrator.
In February 2022, significant progress was made in the case when two suspects were arrested in connection with the double homicide. Jordan P. Crear, a 20-year-old resident of Antioch, was identified as the shooter. He was arrested at his home and charged with two counts of murder and conspiracy to commit a crime, with enhancements. Crear was held at the Martinez Detention Facility with a $7 million bond. Destiny Boyd, a 22-year-old resident of Sacramento, was also arrested and charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit a crime, with enhancements. She was held at the same facility with a $3 million bond. A third suspect, Lonnie Stewart, a 28-year-old resident of Antioch, remained at large, with a $3 million warrant issued for his arrest.
The motive behind the shooting was later revealed to be a case of mistaken identity. The suspects' intended target was a man who had previously robbed Crear. However, Crear mistakenly linked the Infiniti car to his target and opened fire, not realizing that Courtnee Allen and Angelique Abercrombie were inside. This tragic case underscores the devastating consequences of gun violence and the importance of thorough investigative work in bringing justice to the victims and their families.
