Belal Esa, a 59-year-old father of four and a beloved member of the Oakland community, tragically lost his life on September 19, 2022, in a drive-by shooting. Esa was known for his generosity and kindness, often collecting food from nearby stores to distribute to those in need. On the night of his death, Esa had just finished evening prayers at the Oakland Islamic Center and was heading to meet friends for coffee at a nearby restaurant.
