Detective William Capers, aged 51, tragically lost his life on April 3, 1972, in Queens, New York. Detective Capers, a 19-year veteran of the New York City Police Department, was assigned to the 16th Detective Division, Burglary-Larceny Squad. On the day of his death, he and his partner, Detective Raymond Godley, were on foot patrol in plainclothes near Jamaica Avenue.
