Deputy Sheriff William R. Dils, aged 52, tragically lost his life on November 5, 1977, while investigating a burglary at a residence in North Collins, New York. Deputy Dils, a 19-year veteran of the Erie County Sheriff's Office and a World War II veteran, was responding to a burglary-larceny case on Sherman Road.
