On the night of June 26, 2021, in Syracuse, New York, a violent encounter in a parking lot on the 1300 block of South State Street ended the life of Rashein Fortune, a 42-year-old male. Responding to a call of shots fired late on that Saturday night, Syracuse Police officers arrived to find Fortune suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed by ambulance to Upstate University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His death was recorded as the 13th homicide in the city for that year.
