In the late winter of 2015, the life of a 44-year-old Black or African American man named Bryant Phillips was cut short in a violent encounter in New Orleans, Louisiana. On the evening of Friday, February 27, or in the early hours of Saturday, February 28, Phillips was fatally shot in the 6500 block of Coveview Court in the eastern part of the city.
